Is it really "Social" media anymore?


Honestly, What the fuck are we even doing? What has social media has evolved.
Some time back I watched Jack Conte's (CEO of Patreon) SXSW 2024 Keynote talk, where he discusses the demise of the 'Follower' and the future of creativity on the web. It really put the sadness of social media into perspective. 
I still can't wrap my head around how you can have over 500 friends and followers, post something, and it only gets shown to 8 people (or sometimes none at all). And thats most platforms, twitter , facebook, name it.
It's disheartening that platforms designed to connect us evolved to do the opposite years down the road. I don't have much more to add; Jack articulates it far better.
