AI as an "IntelliTool" Rather than Truly Intelligent

"Artificial Intelligence IntelliTools: AI as an "IntelliTool" Rather than Truly Intelligent" - Part 1

Introduction:

Welcome to my blog, where we dive into the world of artificial intelligence and what it means for Intelligence as a broader concept. In this post, I'll share my personal observations and takeaways from the OpenAI Dev Day, shedding light on the advancements made in the field. While AI is often touted as highly intelligent, I believe it falls short of our human-level understanding. Let's delve deeper into the topic.

The Power of Custom Bots and Prompts:

One of the highlights of the OpenAI Dev Day was the introduction of GPTs (Generative Pre-trained Transformers). Essentially, they are customizable bots that respond to specific scenaries. However, this concept is not entirely new. Platforms like Poe, by the creators of Quora, have offered similar functionalities since their inception. In fact, I played around with it and created my own bot  on their platform earlier this year. The key lies in the type of prompt you provide, making prompt engineering a crucial skill. Fortunately, there are AI tools available to assist in this area as well. ChatHub (a browser extension), for instance, offers excellent prompt engineering tools and capabilities.

Empowering Platforms with Assistants:

OpenAI's Assistants feature is another exciting development. For the average user, it means that website and platform owners can easily customize a chatbot or assistant to enhance user experience. These AI-powered assistants can answer user queries, provide assistance, and more. Additionally, the introduction of the GPT Store is intriguing, as it allows platforms to integrate external applications seamlessly. For instance, you can instruct the assistant to send a text message to your boss notifying them of your absence. While similar features have been seen in platforms like Bard, GPT takes it to the next level.

The Challenge of Widespread Adoption:

Despite these remarkable advancements, widespread adoption remains a challenge. Many of the cutting-edge AI models and tools are primarily developed for creative developers and tech-savvy individuals. Attempts by companies to integrate AI into everyday apps, such as Snapchat's AI features or Twitter's recent introduction of Grok, have not met with significant success. Consider your own usage of Snapchat – how often do you engage with their AI chat bot?

The Current State of Artificial Intelligence:

In conclusion, while artificial intelligence is undoubtedly "intelligent", it has yet to reach the level of human understanding. At present, AI can be seen as more of an "Artificial IntellTool," serving specific purposes within defined parameters. As we marvel at the progress made in the field, it's important to acknowledge that AI is still a far cry from achieving human-like intelligence. However, the advancements discussed in this blog post undoubtedly contribute to the evolution and potential of AI.

I appreciate your company on this journey through the realms of intelligence, with a particular focus on AI. In our upcoming blog, we'll delve deep into the domains of neuroscience and psychology, unraveling the uniqueness of human intelligence. Rest assured, the world is not on the brink of an apocalypse, and the robots are not plotting to overthrow us. So, sit back and relax.
